Learning for your future
The future belongs to those who are able to adapt, evolve their thinking, innovate and change. But who will lead us there?
FRK 201 strives to equip you with the knowledge, skills and training you need to thrive and lead (AICPA, 2017)
FRK 201 is reinventing the accounting classroom
Learning is an exploration of the topics that you have a passion for, are curious about, or haven’t heard of yet. Learning is NOT mindless note-taking and reading PowerPoints. If you have to ask a teacher if something is okay, you have forgotten how to be creative and are afraid to be creative because you are afraid of being wrong. A different way of thinking isn’t wrong. Accounting is not black and white, right and wrong.
Accounting is shades of grey
FRK 201 is about YOUR learning
In accordance with the student-centered approach to teaching and learning prescribed by the University of Pretoria, you are expected to prepare for each contact session in advance. Preparation may require interacting with several sources, including videos, textbooks, internet sources and any other material for each topic, prior to the commencement of the lecture, so as to ensure that you acquire a basic knowledge of the relative topic. Preparation may also require a revision of knowledge acquired in your first year. Additionally, preparation may require the completion of various assignments, assessments and projects (both traditional and online).
Lecturers may assess your knowledge of the prescribed material at the commencement of a contact session and your prior knowledge will be used as a point of departure during the contact session. It should be clear that you are obliged to do the preparatory work so as to ensure that you derive maximum benefit from the contact session.
The ebb and flow between lecturer- and student-directed learning is called “blended learning.” The FRK 201 blended learning classroom offers you a variety of teaching strategies, using both paper and digital tools, to meet your learning needs.
